Raw Food Diet Menu Day 13

Raw Food Diet Menu

Breakfast today was 16 oz OJ before my workout. I did 30 mins on the elliptical, and some squats and pull-ups.

I have to say I really like eating before I exercise instead of fixating on all this fasting business. It's not that I'm hungry and I deny myself food, but there are other symptoms that I've ignored that have been trying to talk to me.

Although I'm usually never hungry in the morning, during workouts on an empty stomach I feel a lot less energy and strength than when I have something before hand. I don't need an enormous meal, just a couple hundred calories from something light such as orange juice or others might like to have a smoothie.

While the body can store glycogen to use later, I don't think my reserves are really lasting me long enough to be used for my morning workouts. Otherwise, I wouldn't feel the weakness that I do when exercising. And when there is no glycogen available, the body falls back on the adrenal glands to give us "fake energy" which can eventually result in adrenal exhaustion.

This really resonates with me because back when I did the warrior diet (not eating all day, exercising on empty, and then eating an enormous meal at night) I felt completely wiped out. If it weren't for all the caffeine I was drinking I probably would have never made it through each day.

So, cheers to bringing breakfast back into my life!

At around 1:30 I had half a sugar baby watermelon

A little later I made some tasty salsa and dipped with cucumber and tomato slices. This is as complicated as my recipes have gotten in a while.

2 cucumbers, 3 roma tomatoes

Salsa: 2 tomatoes, 1 yellow pepper, 1 orange pepper, 1/3 teaspoon jalapeno, 1 teaspoon cilantro, juice of one lime

227 calories, 46.2 carbs, 1.3g fat, 6.4g protein

Okay, I know I said I was going to have less OJ but I cheated and had 16 oz more :)

16 oz OJ

204 calories, 47g carbs, 1g fat, 3g protein

For dinner I made a salad mainly consisting of tomatoes that were ripe from my garden. Despite the lack of sun in my backyard, they have produced a lot of tomatoes so far.

3 oz baby greens, 4 oz arugula, 6 dates, 6 tomatoes, 4 olives

569.3 calories, 130.3g carbs, 4.3g fat, 6.9g protein

1,817.8 calories, 424.9g carbs, 10.7g fat, 31.8g protein

Today was about 5.5% fat and 7% protein
